CED Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee + Women’s Organization

By Alexis Eades

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Colliers Engineering & Design Women’s Organization and Diversity, Equity,  & Inclusion Committee have teamed in providing resources and opportunities within our firm for historically underrepresented groups in the engineering industry.

CED’s Women’s Organization was created in February of 2017 by Director of Marketing Michele Ouimet and Director of Human Resources and Executive Committee Team member Allison Colantuoni. Born out of a passion to help to elevate women on their professional journeys through employee resources, the Organization’s mission is to create an influential network of career-minded women. According to Michele, “The focus of the Women’s group is to educate, engage and empower the women of CED, while enabling their voices to be heard through the various opportunities we provide.”

Not Just for Women

The Women’s Organization welcomes both men and women to partake in its activities. A sampling of some initiatives includes panel discussions on Work Life Balance, Leadership Insight, Creating Your Personal Brand with Confidence, and Negotiation Skills. The Group supports global and local charities such as Dress for Success and Oasis – A Haven for Women & Children. It has also been active with Junior Achievement, whose mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed. The organization is looking forward to additional initiatives such as an upcoming event to host two Girl Scout troops and help them achieve their engineering badges.

Our firm has always been proud of its “family first” culture, its commitment to employee well-being, and the fact that many develop lifelong professional and personal relationships here. In fact, the Women’s Group represents a significant part of why some of them chose to work for Colliers Engineering & Design.

Diversity & Inclusion

In 2021, Allison Colantuoni and President and CEO Kevin Haney expanded our firm’s support of diversity by formally creating the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee.

Each with a unique background, members include Colantuoni and Haney, Lukman Osi, Carl O’Brien, Mark Bean, Kathleen Pearson, Nicholas Freeman, Elise Ariel, Darnetta Craig, and Alexis Eades. The group’s main goals center around raising awareness of diversity, educating how to promote inclusion at all levels of the firm, and taking action to ensure  every employee feels comfortable being exactly who they are in their workplace.

“We want to take the success we’ve had with the Women’s Organization and expand it so that every person feels there is a resource for them to grow professionally, and as an individual, within the workplace environment we have created,” said Allison Colantuoni.

As we grow into new geographic regions, people from all over the country are blending into one company. It is therefore more important than ever to embrace our differences. Colliers Engineering & Design will continue to promote and develop programs like the Women’s Organization and DE&I Committee while working together with our newer firms to integrate ideas and programs to make CED the best firm it can be!

Any employee with diversity and inclusion concerns, comments, or questions should contact the committee.

Diversity & Inclusion Committee Mission Statement

The Colliers Engineering & Design Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee seeks to cultivate a culture of belonging for all employees. We are committed to raising awareness of diversity, educating how to promote inclusion, and taking action to make our firm a place where every employee feels safe, supported and appreciated for being exactly who they are.

We hope to help guide our company’s culture and be a trusted resource for employees.  Recognizing the benefits of having a variety of perspectives in all situations, we will continually make conscious decisions to support Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in the workplace.

“No one should never have to hide or change who they are outwardly to feel comfortable in a workplace.”
