See Jersey City’s Plans to Extend Newark Ave Pedestrian Plaza!

By Maraliese Beveridge

Watch our own Gus DeBlasio, landscape/streetscape extraordinaire, speak to Hudson County View describing Jersey City’s upcoming plans to revitalize another section of town—the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza streetscape project. This project will extend the existing pedestrian-friendly plaza, which has brought in dozens of new businesses, from Barrow Street to Jersey Avenue.

Plans include raising the street grade to continue to enhance the walkability in this area while acting as a traffic-calming measure. The goal to attract people will bring together neighborhoods by making it more desirable aesthetically and so they have places to meet to enjoy food and drink, performances, art festivals and other activities. The project will increase safety and accessibility, add new lighting and seating elements, slot drains, and walking areas while enriching the plaza by planting trees that will create a welcoming canopy for shade as well as beauty.
