Last week, the Christie Administration announced the Garden State Preservation Trust’s approval of nearly $81 million in funding for projects that will improve parks, conserve open space and enhance land for public enjoyment. These projects were recommended for approval through the Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Acres Program, and among them were three initiatives our team of municipal engineers and grant experts applied for!

Our Grants and Funding Services Coordinator Kelsey Howard facilitated the applications for Belleville’s Municipal Stadium Improvements, Howell’s 2017 Planning Incentive Acquisition and Rahway’s Madden Field Park Improvements. The anticipated award for these projects is estimated to be near $2.8 million. So how will these grants enhance the quality of life for these towns?

Belleville Municipal Stadium – Anticipated award $1,000,000

The improvements to the Belleville Municipal Stadium include the installation of a synthetic surface track and a synthetic turf field which will be used for softball, football and soccer. Additionally, the associated drainage, fencing, lighting and landscaping will be incorporated. This project is sure to provide residents with a diverse space for sports and activity.

Howell 2017 Planning Incentive Acquisition – Anticipated award $750,000

The 2017 Planning Incentive Acquisition will obtain land for recreation and conservation purposes in accordance with the Township’s Open Space and Recreation Plan. We’re excited to see how this procured space will be utilized.

Madden Field Park – Anticipated award $1,000,000

Improvements to Rahway’s Madden Field Park includes the installation of a synthetic turf multi-sport surface for football, soccer, football practice fields and baseball fields. Further enhancements include the associated fencing, lighting, drainage, bleachers and pads. The synthetic turf will provide park-goers with a safer space, improved ADA accessibility and fun all year round.
