Pier 79 Special Inspections

New York, NY

Waterfront Harbors/Marina/Piers/Ship Terminal

Pier 79 at the West Midtown Ferry Terminal is a critical part of New York City’s waterfront transportation network, supporting daily ferry operations and passenger access along the Hudson River. As improvements advanced at the terminal, specialized construction support was required to help maintain safety, quality, and compliance during work on key structural elements.
Our team provided construction support and special inspection services for the Pier 79 Improvements project. As a New York City Department of Buildings registered Special Inspection Agency, our professionals performed inspections required for steel and aluminum welding, crack repairs, and pile driving activities identified in the project drawings.
Inspection services included support for pile driving and installation of a 130-foot-long pile located approximately 50 feet from the Lincoln Tunnel, where careful coordination and field oversight were essential. Our team also inspected repairs to a 70-foot-long aluminum gangway with canopy, including welds associated with the gangway and steel pipe pile connection.
Working at the direction of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, our professionals coordinated inspection services with the contractor, JT Cleary, Inc., and supported communication with the Engineer of Record. Interim approvals were provided as work progressed, helping confirm that completed construction activities met project requirements and could advance toward final acceptance.
