Historic Hoover-Mason Trestle Conversion
City of Bethlehem, Northampton County, PAHistoric Hoover-Mason Trestle Conversion
City of Bethlehem, Northampton County, PAProvided project management, land survey, structural engineering, and geotechnical engineering for the inspection and assessment of the Hoover-Mason Trestle at the former site of Bethlehem Steel, a name synonymous with big business and molten metal that helped shape our country’s infrastructure. Today, the site is one of the largest redevelopment projects in Pennsylvania. Currently home to the Steel Stacks Campus, Sands Casino, Sands Event Center, and ArtQuest Entertainment Center, the overall project encompasses hundreds of acres of connecting venues, thousands of commercial and residential units, and is destined to become a multi-dimensional cultural and entertainment district.
Advanced laser scanning technology was employed at the Hoover-Mason Trestle, which was the focus of the City of Bethlehem Redevelopment Authorities’ plans to create an elevated pedestrian walkway between the Steel Stacks campus and Sands Casino. Scan information gathered from the 3D Hi-Definition laser scanning was transformed into comprehensive 3D models that provided dimensional and elevation data for analysis and design of the foundations and structures that set the stage for the attachment of the unique 2,400 ft prefabricated pedestrian walkway and bike path. This trestle project is expected to help breathe life back into the Bethlehem economy and will enable the City to celebrate a century of steelmaking while paving the way to a brighter future.
