Structural Improvements to Firehouse Apparatus Floors
City of Trenton, Mercer County, NJStructural Improvements to Firehouse Apparatus Floors
City of Trenton, Mercer County, NJProvided engineering, design, and construction inspection services for structural improvements to firehouse apparatus floors at Engine No. 6 and Engine No. 7 in the City of Trenton. The City had purchased new fire trucks for both Engine Station No. 6 and Engine Station No. 7 to replace the existing firetrucks at each station, and the existing apparatus floors and driveway aprons at both Engine Stations needed to be assessed to determine if they had the structural capacity to accommodate the load from the new fire trucks.
Our professionals conducted a site survey to evaluate the existing apparatus floor, including walls, columns, floor framing, and driveway aprons. We also performed a geotechnical investigation to determine the size of the buildings’ footings and bearing capacity of the soil. Upon analysis of the existing conditions, we provided design plans that included reinforcement of the existing floor girders and design of new steel girders. New steel columns were designed at both the existing and new girders, and these new columns bear on new reinforced concrete shallow footings below the basement slab. Our professionals also prepared bid documents and will be providing full construction management and inspection services.
