Mars Confections Facility Expansion

Waco City, TX

Colliers Engineering & Design provided Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) for a large expansion at the Mars Waco, TX confections facility. Our services included Quality Level “D” Records Research through Quality Level “A” Utility Exposure. Our firm was engaged by Haskell Corporation to provide utility investigation and mapping in conjunction with the major expansion at the 160-acre facility. Our team met with on-site maintenance staff to review any available or historic plans of the facility and understand where previous changes and expansions had occurred. Once the site history was understood, our team performed electromagnetic and ground penetrating radar investigations to designate existing utilities.

Following surface designation, our team performed vacuum excavation to expose existing utilities at potential conflict locations and provide a map and report of utilities discovered and their associated elevations. Following the initial SUE efforts, Haskell Corporation and Mars/Wrigley engaged our firm to perform vacuum excavation trenching through critical areas of the proposed expansion and connection areas to ensure the safe exposure of tie-in locations and ensure continued, around-the-clock operation of the facility without utility interruptions.
