Expansion of Runway 9R – 27L
Fort Lauderdale, FLExpansion of Runway 9R – 27L
Fort Lauderdale, FLColliers Engineering & Design (CED) was part of the Design Build team providing services for a portion of the approximately $790 million Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport South Runway Expansion project. This significant project extended Runway 9R/27L from 5,276 feet to 8,000 feet, giving the airport two parallel runways. The extended runway allows planes to use two runways simultaneously, increasing the airport’s capacity by as much as 30 percent.
Under a subconsultant agreement, CED was tasked with design services for the superstructures and substructures for the new US-1 / I-595 braided ramp bridge, and MSE walls along the braided ramp bridge approaches and airport exit ramp necessary to cross over the I-595 ramp connection. Work also included drainage and traffic control plans, and modifications to the two exiting roadway ramps.
