Sea Isle City Municipal Public Fishing Pier

Sea Isle City, NJ

2021 NJSME Municipal Design Project of the Year Award

As the Sea Isle City Municipal Public Fishing Pier was to be constructed within wetlands, among freshwater and saltwater, Colliers Engineering & Design worked closely with the NJDEP to develop a design that would have the least impact on the surrounding environment. The result is a single 142-foot long pier that branches into three segments: one for a pavilion, another for fishing and the last is an accessible floating dock to launch kayaks and paddleboards.

The structure utilizes Greenheart, an all-natural timber material from Guyana. It is resistant to borers and doesn’t need to be treated. The railing is fiberglass and the deck is composed of WearDeck composite decking. The pavilion uses a standing seam aluminum roof and fiberglass enclosed columns. To handle storm events, the entire structure is built above Superstorm Sandy elevations and held down by hurricane clips, which can withstand up to 115 mph winds. All these measures reduced the overall maintenance required and ensure the longevity of these amenities.
