Hyatt Centric Hotel

City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA

Colliers Engineering & Design provided geotechnical engineering and special inspections services for the Hyatt Centric Hotel, a new 13-story hotel structure that will feature 300 rooms, executive suites, ground-floor level retail space, and two below-grade levels of parking. Our geotechnical engineering services included the execution of a phased geotechnical exploration program. The initial phase of exploration consisted of test borings located in the lower level of the existing parking garage facility, which were drilled using limited access, low overhead, hydraulic drilling equipment. The information gathered during the preliminary exploration was evaluated and used to develop geotechnical recommendations for the new development, which included recommendations for support of the hotel tower using a mat foundation bearing in the dense alluvial soil layer underlying the site. The final geotechnical exploration program will be completed to confirm consistency of the subsurface conditions in previously unexplored regions of the site.

Our professionals are also currently providing demolition special inspection services for the removal of the existing three-story, cast-in-place parking garage facility. Construction special inspections services will include foundations; cast-in-place concrete; structural steel; pre-cast concrete; and spray-on fire resistant materials (SFRM).
