Colliers Engineering & Design is proud to announce its Geotechnical Technical Director James Serpico, Jr., PE, has won the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) New Jersey Section’s 2026 Civil Engineer of the Year Award.
“It is an honor to be recognized by ASCE NJ,” James Serpico said. “As a geotechnical and civil engineer, shaping the future of New Jersey takes place at all levels. From small-scale soil investigations to some of the largest site remediation and construction projects, building resiliency across the state involves a group effort with strong technical and ethical standards.”
James has extensive experience in geotechnical, geo-structural, and site development engineering. As the founder of Colliers Engineering & Design’s Geotechnical division and with decades of experience bettering the built environment of New Jersey, he has had the opportunity to work on some of the largest projects in the Garden State.
James has been the lead geotechnical engineer for Riverton, a 400+ acre redevelopment site along the Raritan River in Sayreville, New Jersey. This redevelopment project’s construction exceeds $2.4 billion, with James’ role focusing on all soil related aspects for getting the former National Lead brownfield site ready to be transformed into a hub of commercial and residential space. Additionally, James was responsible for the soils exploration and deep pile foundation design for the BAPS Hindu Temple located in Robbinsville, New Jersey. The temple is considered the largest Hindu temple in the western world.
James also holds a passion for mentoring the next generation of emerging engineers. He previously served as a visiting professor at Lafayette College, fostering a passion in the field for the students. He also is an active mentor at Colliers Engineering & Design and can often be seen aiding young professionals in the firm’s geotechnical, structural and civil/site divisions.
“We are proud to see James take home this recognition,” said Richard Maser, Executive Chairman at Colliers Engineering & Design. “Since bringing the Geotechnical Discipline to Colliers Engineering & Design, James has been a fundamental figure in our growth.”
