Long Branch Sewerage Authority Wastewater Treatment Plant Modifications

City of Long Branch, Monmouth County, NJ

Provided water/wastewater engineering, structural design, and construction administration services for the Long Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant. Modifications included new headworks, odor control, maintenance building, alarm and SCADA system, grit removal, chlorine system modifications, and replacement of the aeration system. The replacement of the aeration system, blowers, and controls improved efficiency and reduced electric cost. The project included the replacement of the covers on the sludge digesters and improved digester gas mixing, which improved the overall operations and digester gas production. The micro-turbines utilize most of the gas to heat hot water and digester gas, and to produce electrical energy that is utilized in the treatment plant.

Structural improvements included new concrete and masonry single and two-story buildings and foundations for a new pre-engineered vehicle garage/maintenance building. Some buildings have overhead hoist monorails, and several structures are based on deep foundations (piles). Colliers Engineering & Design also prepared and submitted loan applications in compliance with all requirements of the NJ Environmental Infrastructure Trust and NJDEP Municipal Finance and Construction Element. As a result, the Authority received $5,000,000 in principal-forgiven ARRA funding in the 2010 NJDEP/NJEIT Program.
