SR 826/Palmetto Expressway PD&E

Miami-Dade County, FL

Colliers Engineering & Design is the Lead Structures Engineer under a subconsultant agreement providing design services to a major Project Development & Environmental (PD&E) Study for SR 826/Palmetto Expressway from US-1/SR 5/Dixie Highway to SR 836/Dolphin Expressway, approximately seven miles of highway encompassing 66 existing structures. Located within unincorporated Miami-Dade County, FL, this PD&E study proposes several corridor improvements that will add highway and interchange capacity with the implementation of an express lanes system. The project involves widening of AASHTO and steel bridges and the development of new bridges including steel and concrete segmental alternatives. A LRFR rating was also required for five bridges to evaluate the feasibility of the bridge widening. Improvements to 43 structures are required, including 19 new bridges, 20 bridge widenings, and 4 culverts.

Express lanes provide an innovative, lower-cost alternative to traditional highway construction offering a variety of options for managing congestion. This is the final segment of a larger express lanes project for the SR 826 corridor. The northern segment, which extends from SR 836 to I-75, is already in use. Once completed, this project will create new choices for consistent and dependable travel throughout the day and particularly during rush hours for its over 200,000 daily users.
