Expanding in Arizona: Introducing Our In-House Traffic Planning Team

By Colliers Engineering & Design

Colliers Engineering & Design, a multidiscipline engineering, architecture, and design firm serving public and private sector clients nationwide, continues to expand its comprehensive in-house services in Arizona. We’re excited to announce the addition of a dedicated local Traffic Engineering & Transportation Planning team, providing our clients with the competitive advantage of partnering with a firm that offers integrated traffic planning solutions from a centralized location.

Meet Our New Transportation and Traffic Planning Team

We are thrilled to introduce our new local transportation and traffic planning professionals! Led by Joon Dokgo, PE (Project Manager) and Tyler Gafke (Assistant Project Manager), this team brings extensive expertise backed by our nationwide resources.

Joon Dokgo, PE – Project Manager

As our first traffic hire in Arizona, Joon brings over a decade of specialized experience and proven leadership in traffic engineering. A Civil Engineering graduate from Arizona State University, Joon developed his expertise through extensive work with ADOT during his internship years, gaining deep insights into Arizona’s transportation infrastructure and regulatory landscape.

Throughout his career, Joon has demonstrated versatility across multiple civil engineering disciplines, including site development and aviation projects. However, his consistent return to traffic engineering reflects both his natural aptitude and his recognition of the field’s significant community impact. His expertise in large-scale traffic projects and their transformative effects on communities has become the cornerstone of his professional focus.

Today, Joon specializes in complex roadway infrastructure projects, leading comprehensive planning and design initiatives that require both technical expertise and strategic vision. His current portfolio includes several high-profile roundabout projects and major municipal roadway developments that showcase his ability to manage sophisticated transportation solutions.

“The fact that we’re building something from scratch, but very organically, is super exciting,” Joon explains. “We’ve already won a lot of really big projects, and I think the sky is the limit for our team.”

Tyler Gafke – Assistant Project Manager

Tyler contributes over eight years of experience and holds a Civil Engineering degree from Arizona State University. Tyler began his career in traffic engineering immediately after graduation, working extensively on traffic studies. Initially drawn to the field by curiosity about what traffic engineering entailed, Tyler now appreciates how the discipline enables him to work on multiple projects simultaneously while seeing quick results and immediate rewards from his efforts.

“I really like the aspect of being able to work on multiple projects simultaneously,” Tyler explains. “The variety keeps things interesting and allows me to apply my expertise across different types of developments and challenges on a weekly basis.”

Tyler is spearheading our traffic studies initiatives in Arizona, bringing his expertise in analysis and rapid project delivery to serve our growing client base. Prior to joining the firm, Tyler worked as a Traffic Designer for Lokahi and J2 Engineering and Environmental Design in the greater Phoenix area.

The Strategy

This strategic expansion strengthens our local presence by bringing specialized traffic engineering and transportation planning expertise in-house. Our professionals work seamlessly with our existing planning and engineering teams to identify circulation and site layout issues, providing proactive solutions that minimize project risks.

This multidisciplinary integration eliminates the coordination challenges of working with multiple vendors—each operating with different timelines, communication protocols, and technical approaches. Instead, our clients benefit from unified collaboration between traffic engineers, site planners, and transportation specialists working under one roof. Our established relationships across local, county, state, and federal agencies further streamline the regulatory process to ensure successful project delivery.

Our expanded Arizona capabilities encompass traffic impact studies, multi-modal planning, traffic signal design and analysis, transportation safety improvements, sustainable transportation and complete streets initiatives, curb ramp design and pedestrian accessibility, highway access permitting, and wayfinding signage design.

This addition delivers integrated solutions that enhance project efficiency while providing clients seamless access to specialized expertise backed by our firm’s nationwide resources and deep local community knowledge.
