Tenafly 2014 Micro-Surfacing
Borough of Tenafly, Bergen County, NJTenafly 2014 Micro-Surfacing
Borough of Tenafly, Bergen County, NJProvided municipal engineering and construction inspection services to Tenafly for the 2014 micro-surfacing project. Micro-surfacing is a mixture of polymer modified asphalt emulsion, mineral filler, water, and other additives that is properly proportioned, mixed, and then spread across a paved surface at 1/4” thickness. Considered to be one of the most versatile tools in “road maintenance,” micro-surfacing utilizes a polymer modified cold-mix paving system that is very cost effective and can remedy a wide range of problems on roadways.
Tenafly used micro-surfacing to seal three Borough streets – Berkeley Drive, Park Street, and Brook Road – in order to prevent deterioration of the roads due to water penetration and the freeze/thaw process. Micro-surfacing offers municipalities a viable option for their roadway repair and maintenance programs because as it extends the life of eligible roadways in good condition, it subsequently helps keep the need for a more expensive milling and paving process at bay. The project, which also included patching and crack sealing prior to micro-surfacing, will reduce the overall cost of repaving in the future.
