Silver Lake Drainage Outfall Installation

Borough of Belmar, Monmouth County, NJ

Provided design services, permitting, and construction administration and inspection for the installation of a new 48” HDPE drainage outfall pipe for Silver Lake in Belmar. The existing pipe was undersized, old, and often suffered from breakage. Because the system emptied into the Atlantic Ocean, it was easily clogged by sand and could not drain correctly due to wave action. The new system utilizes larger drainage structures and discharges into the Shark River instead of directly into the ocean. Although the new system travels a longer route, our unique design ensures it is easier to maintain and does not have to fight the ocean waves to drain, making it far more efficient.

Our professionals developed the design for a new outfall pipe, outlet structure, two 24” x 48” sluice gates, and an improved method for pumping the stormwater from the lake. Additional services included coordination with utility companies and with NJDEP for required permits; soil borings; preparation of bid specifications and pay items; development of an updated construction cost estimate; advertisement and public bid of project; and bid review and recommendation for project award. The project also included all construction administration and inspection required to ensure the project was completed according to specifications, on time, and within budget. Administrative duties included review of payment requests, shop drawing review and coordination, project scheduling, change order reviews and negotiations, contractor RFI reviews and coordination, and meeting attendance and coordination.
