Morgan’s Inspiration Island is a one-of-a-kind, ultra-accessible, award-winning splash park. The splash park’s attractions include five splash pads with a variety of themes and equipment.

Colliers Engineering & Design (CED) performed survey services to create existing conditions and property line plans from which to base the civil portions of the park design. CED designed the layout, grading, utilities, and drainage for the overall park as well as the specific splash pads, gathering areas, rest areas, and accessible approaches. Due to the ultra-accessible nature of the park, there were many unique challenges that required attention during design including building entries in close proximity to water features, fire access, safety requirements, cross access-connections with existing facilities, and maintaining positive drainage in conjunction with accessibility slope requirements.

Following design, CED was integral to the team in working with regulatory agencies and permitting of the park. CED also performed construction administration services, including coordination with the owner, project team, and contractors, design of park change orders for implementation of new components, and timely resolution of construction matters that arose. Surveying services during construction included layout verification, grades and utility locations, and final as-built preparation. Construction tolerances were very small and CED successfully addressed several areas of construction that, because of actual as-built conditions, required adjustment to comply with those accessibility tolerances.
