Bailey Avenue Corridor Improvements Study

Buffalo, NY

Plan/Report/Study

Bailey Avenue has long served as a vital artery through Buffalo, but its potential as a true multimodal corridor remained unrealized. Aging infrastructure, pedestrian safety concerns, and limited transit reliability signaled the need for a fresh look at how this stretch of roadway could better serve the people who depend on it every day.
A Collaborative Path Forward
Retained by the City of Buffalo, GBNRTC, and NFTA, our team led a comprehensive corridor study exploring the integration of Bus Rapid Transit with targeted streetscape improvements. The work began with a detailed analysis of existing conditions, evaluating traffic patterns, transit operations, pedestrian access, and the overall character of the street environment. From that foundation, we developed a menu of transit and streetscape alternatives tailored to the corridor’s specific challenges and opportunities, alongside a funding and financial plan to guide implementation.
Designed for the People Who Use It
At its core, this study is about more than infrastructure. It’s about creating a safer, more inviting Bailey Avenue that strengthens the sense of place for surrounding neighborhoods while improving how residents, businesses, and transit riders move through and connect with the corridor. The resulting strategic framework positions the City and its partners to advance improvements that are both technically sound and rooted in the community’s vision for what Bailey Avenue can become.
