Chestnut Street Streetscape Improvements

Borough of Roselle, Union County, NJ

Provided design and construction management services for this project, which consisted of the construction of ADA accessible routes and decorative streetscape improvements along the center-city pedestrian facilities. Also performed the grant administration for state and federal agency funding including Green Acres; NJDOT Municipal Aid Program; Safe Routes to School; and Safe Streets to Transportation grants for this federal-aid project. This streetscape project began with the reconstruction of existing sidewalks experiencing drainage problems, including the re-grading and re-surfacing of the sidewalk areas; installation of ADA aprons; and the installation of new stairs and planters on the Borough Hall. Streetscape improvements included the installation of shade trees, benches, and decorative concrete accent strips; these improvements are part of a multi-phased, 20-block streetscape improvement project constructed in phases as funding became available.

Our professionals worked closely with business owners to keep storefronts open during construction, due to high activity in this busy commercial downtown area. Maintained pedestrian and ADA accessibility throughout the duration of this project. Coordinated the upgrade of various utilities with the NJDOT and business owners including sewer lines, oil tank removal, and other ancillary subsurface utilities prior to the final re-surfacing of sidewalks.
