Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is a 180,000 SF cruise terminal that sits on the Buttermilk Channel and is one of two terminals for ocean-going cruise ships in the City of New York. The main pier of the cruise terminal, Pier 12, is an aged high-level concrete platform pier supported on over 2,000 timber piles with concrete extensions. Colliers Engineering & Design was retained to perform a full structural inspection of the pier, including the concrete platform, underwater inspection of the timber piles and extensions, and all related marine elements.

Based on the inspection, we developed engineering plans for the rehabilitation of the pier consisting of various types of substructure and pier repair including timber piling, pile jacketing, concrete extension repairs and encasements, concrete spall repairs, and other miscellaneous repairs. We developed a construction cost estimate for the repair and rehabilitation work and prioritized the work based on the available project funds. We also provided full permitting, including development and expediting of permits for agencies such as the US Army Corps of Engineers, New York District; NYS DEC, Region 2, Division of Environmental Permits; NYS DEC, Region 2, Bureau of Marine Resources; NYS DOS, Division of Coastal Resources, Office of Planning and Development; NYC Department of City Planning, Waterfront and Open Space Division; and the NYC Small Business Services, Waterfront Permits Unit.
