Headquarters/RED BANK, NJ—Deborah Alaimo Lawlor, FAICP, PP, was named President-Elect of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), the professional institute of the American Planning Association. AICP represents 16,500 certified planners and focuses on ethics, professional development and standards of practice. Lawlor will take office January 1, 2018.
In this elected, volunteer position, Lawlor will serve one-year as president-elect before assuming the presidency for a two-year term, followed by a final year as past-president. She will be responsible for leading the eight-member AICP Commission in governing the institute and is currently completing her second four-year term as a Commissioner.

At Maser Consulting P.A., Lawlor is the discipline leader of Planning Services. With more than 30 years of state, regional and private sector planning experience, she manages 12 planners representing more than 50 municipalities and a large private development clientele. Maser Consulting has 22 offices nationwide and employs over 700 professionals including licensed engineers, planners, surveyors, landscape architects and environmental scientists. Previously, she served as the Chief Planner and Chief of Sustainability and Economic Growth at the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission. Debbie Lawlor is a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners, one of the planning profession’s highest honors.
“To be able to engage the public from a planning perspective on the national level is going to be a great experience,” stated Lawlor. “One I might not have achieved without the support and confidence of so many people I’ve met along the way.”
An active APA member, Lawlor has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as chair of the Community Assistance Planning Services Committee, and as member of the APA Research Agenda Task Force and was a charter member of the Sustainable Communities Division. She was vice chair of state planning for the Regional and Intergovernmental Planning Division and first vice president of the APA New Jersey Chapter. In 2009, she received the APA New Jersey Chapter Distinguished Service Award.
