The City and Town of Canandaigua engaged our firm to develop an Active Transportation Plan focusing on South Main Street and Lakeshore Drive. This vital corridor, which connects downtown to Canandaigua Lake’s waterfront, faces significant challenges—particularly at the Route 5 and 20 intersection, where pedestrians and cyclists encounter substantial safety concerns.
Our comprehensive plan addressed these challenges by proposing strategic improvements to enhance multi-modal connectivity and safety throughout the corridor. The plan’s transportation infrastructure components delivered detailed solutions for pedestrian and bicycle facilities while incorporating public realm enhancements through thoughtful streetscape improvements. To ensure implementation, we provided a thorough funding and financial plan to guide future infrastructure investments.
Community engagement was central to committee meetings, stakeholder interviews, and interactive public workshops. Digital engagement through a dedicated project webpage and online community surveys gathered diverse perspectives from residents. This collaborative approach ensured the final plan reflected community needs while providing practical solutions for transforming this critical corridor into a safe and accessible public space.
