Solar
How our solar and energy storage engineers help developers move from site selection to operations
A successful solar or battery storage project is shaped long before the first panels are installed. The right site, a clear path to the grid, a permitting strategy that accounts for local and state requirements, and coordinated civil, electrical, structural, environmental, and geotechnical engineering all have to come together. Developers who move most efficiently through that process are the ones working with a partner who understands how each of those pieces affects the others.
Our team provides single-source engineering consulting for community and utility-grade solar energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS). We engage early in due diligence to surface challenges before they slow a project down, then stay involved through the complete development cycle: conceptual design and project siting, permitting, interconnection applications, regulatory approvals, commissioning, and post-construction requirements. That continuity from first site visit to final closeout is how we help clients protect their timelines and their investment.

Our approach
Solar and BESS projects touch nearly every engineering discipline, and our approach reflects that reality. Land services, site selection, survey and geospatial, natural resources, civil and electrical engineering, geotechnical investigation, environmental permitting, structural design, and operations and maintenance all work together within our firm. That integration matters because decisions made during site selection affect permitting timelines, geotechnical findings shape foundation design, and environmental constraints influence layout and capacity. When those disciplines operate in silos, projects lose time. When they operate together, they gain it.
Our diverse team of specialists guides each project through every application, submittal, and approval process, including ongoing electrical interconnection support and utility coordination. Whether the project is a community-scale solar installation or a utility-grade facility paired with battery storage, we apply the same discipline: understand the site fully, engineer it accurately, and move it through approvals without losing momentum.

Pre-project planning that sets the foundation
The earliest decisions on a solar or BESS project, where to site it, how to access the grid, and what constraints exist on the land, determine how smoothly everything else goes. Our site selection and feasibility team uses a web-based GIS site selection application alongside desktop layout, capacity and sizing, and constraints studies to help clients evaluate candidate sites with precision. We analyze grid connectivity and existing infrastructure, coordinate utility and system operator pre-application studies, and handle right-of-way and lease negotiations, deed and title research, and landowner outreach. On the survey side, our geospatial professionals deploy UAS aerial LiDAR and remote sensing, tree-height analysis, topographical and boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, and construction layout and staking to establish the spatial foundation every project needs.
Engineering, permitting, and building it right
Once a site is selected and characterized, our engineering and natural resources teams carry the project forward through design, approvals, and construction. On the environmental and geotechnical side, that work includes wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species assessments, cultural resource management, floodplain assessment and modeling, Phase I and II ESA reports, erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management, infiltration analyses, subsurface characterization and testing, foundation analyses and design, corrosivity evaluations, materials testing, ground grid testing, and construction inspection and compliance.
The engineering scope is equally comprehensive. Our team handles equipment selection and layout, civil site design, landscape design, glare and visual studies, stormwater pollution prevention plans, electrical and structural engineering, substation and infrastructure upgrade design, and solar decommissioning planning. For battery energy storage, we provide civil site design for standalone or co-located systems, electrical interconnection support, noise studies, and HVAC design. After construction, our operations and maintenance services include NPDES/SPDES compliance, thermal imagery, and asset condition monitoring to protect the long-term performance of the investment.
