Analytical, Fungal, and Microbiological Lab Capabilities Expansion

Huntersville, NC

Microban, a global leader in antimicrobial additives headquartered in Huntersville, North Carolina, recently experienced rapid growth causing its operations to quickly surpass existing laboratory capacity. To support this expansion, our firm was engaged to redesign and enhance its current facility, providing over 5,000 sq. ft. of space to meet new program requirements.

This project involved a comprehensive renovation and relocation of the special projects lab to optimize operational workflows. The existing Fungal Lab was expanded to over 1,500 sq. ft., with an additional 2,912 sq. ft. dedicated to Microbiology Labs and 785 sq. ft. allocated for Wet Chemistry. To support these improvements, we installed a new gas-fired DX rooftop air handling unit and redundant high-plume laboratory exhaust fans, ensuring the updated floor plan was properly conditioned, pressurized, and ventilated.

By implementing a phased design and construction strategy that incorporated swing space, renovation work could be carried out while minimizing or eliminating utility shutdowns. As a result, we maintained continuous laboratory access throughout the construction phase, and Microban’s operations continued seamlessly without interruption.
