The Isle at Manayunk
City of Philadelphia, PAThe former Connelly Container site, originally constructed on the man-made Venice Island, was redeveloped as The Isle, a residential housing complex. Colliers Engineering & Design professionals provided geotechnical, environmental, and construction special inspections services. Our geotechnical services included completion of a detailed geotechnical exploration program. The four-story residential structures are each supported by steel H-piles, seated on the underlying rock surface, and pile caps / grade beams. Special subgrade preparation and backfill recommendations were provided to develop pile lateral load resistance, as well as to reduce risk of utility subsidence. Construction special inspections services included observation and testing of the driven steel H-piles and subsequent pile load testing; concrete testing during construction; earthwork and subgrade preparation; wood framing; fireproofing and firestopping; and asphalt pavements (including permeable asphalts).
Our environmental services included clean fill and regulated fill investigations of excess excavated soil for purposes of providing disposal recommendations according to PADEP’s Management of Fill policy. Services also included preparation of applications and approval from soil recycling/disposal facilities for the regulated fill. We provided oversight during the excavation, removal, and transportation off-site in compliance with receiving facility acceptance protocols and approved tonnage limits. We also conducted the remedial investigation and cleanup of fuel spilled from a crane during construction.
