Escanaba & Lake Superior RR over US-2

Escanaba, MI

A new single-span thru-girder railroad bridge was constructed over US-2 on a realigned track, improving rail operations while maintaining uninterrupted train service during construction. Pedestrian access along US-2 was provided through a box culvert located behind the new bridge abutment, minimizing the bridge span and enhancing safety. The design also included salvaging the existing bridge superstructure for future reuse by the railroad.

Our team developed the bridge replacement design and led the realignment of over 4,000 feet of new track, along with rehabilitation of existing rail sections. Working closely with the railroad owner, we incorporated preferred track design standards, construction requirements, and operational considerations into the final plans.
