Construction Inspection Services for Avalon Boulevard

Cape May Courthouse, NJ

The Avalon Boulevard Bridge rehabilitation project over Ingram’s Thorofare (Structure No. 0500-001) involved comprehensive structural and safety improvements, with our team providing construction management and inspection services to oversee the work. The project included a complete deck replacement on six spans and specialized hydro-demolition with High-Performance Concrete (HPC) overlay on the remaining 17 spans.

Significant structural work was performed, including steel repairs on the main span, which was cleaned and protected with a three-coat organic zinc system. Repairs prioritized during annual inspections, including prestressed concrete beam repairs and Priority One repairs, were successfully addressed. Beam jacking operations were conducted with precision to facilitate bearing replacement at Piers 9 and 13.

Safety and durability were further enhanced through the replacement of all bridge joints with galvanized steel armored joints, along with targeted deck and parapet repairs. Repairs to the existing bridge handrail and installation of new beam guide rail with updated attachments and end treatments ensured compliance with modern safety standards. The deck surface was refined with diamond grinding for improved smoothness and saw-cut grooving for enhanced traction.

The project concluded with electrical system upgrades to modernize the bridge lighting, ensuring continued structural integrity and public safety. Our construction management and inspection efforts ensured quality control and adherence to the project timeline and budget.
