Allen Creek Berm Opening/Feasibility Study & Design
Ann Arbor, MIAllen Creek Berm Opening/Feasibility Study & Design
Ann Arbor, MILocated at the mouth of Allen Creek near the Ann Arbor Amtrak Station, this project addressed severe flooding caused by a railroad berm along the Michigan Line. The berm’s perpendicular alignment to the creek created floodplain depths up to 10 feet during major storms. Since MDOT owns and Amtrak operates the line, uninterrupted rail service was essential.
In partnership with OHM and the City, our team led a feasibility study and coordinated with railroad stakeholders to explore options for a dual-purpose opening. The preferred solution—a culvert beneath the tracks—reduces flood depths and provides safe pedestrian riverfront access during dry periods.
