Rehabilitation of the Morlot Avenue Bridge

City of Paterson & Borough of Fair Lawn, Bergen County, NJ

Provided professional engineering and survey services for the rehabilitation of the Morlot Avenue Bridge, a 265-foot, three-span, open-truss structure spanning the Passaic River. This involved replacement of the bridge superstructure, composed of three spans of riveted steel thru girders with steel floor beams and stringers. The new bridge superstructure was designed for HS-25 truck loading and consists of three spans of simply supported, galvanized steel trusses, with a reinforced concrete deck. The scope of work also involved the reconstruction of the concrete headers and beam seats, as well as the replacement of all deck joints.

Other work done as part of this contract included the performance of concrete repairs and stone re-pointing of the substructures, as well as the addition of steel sheet pilings at the pier footings. The firm was responsible for ROW mapping, bridge condition inspection, regulatory permitting, structural design, and associated roadway improvements, along with full construction observation and administration services for the superstructure removal and replacement.
