City of Philadelphia, PAPerformed a detailed geotechnical study to assist in the design and construction of Drexel University’s proposed high-rise student housing tower in Philadelphia, PA. The new tower will be known as Lancaster Square, and once completed, the 24-story, 530,000 SF residential structure will house more than 350 units students; 89 underground parking spaces, bike parking; a stormwater cistern; 19,000 SF retail space the first floor; a large dining hall; and an outdoor deck area providing active community space for the students, including a sun deck,, a fire pit, and a hot tub.
Our professionals provided quality assurance, materials testing, and special inspections services for the below-grade construction. Specifically, we provided full-time engineering oversight and documentation for both the drilled shaft and the spread footing foundations bearing on bedrock; as well as subgrade preparation for floor slabs-on-grade, and the installation of a perimeter foundation drainage system addition, we performed materials testing of the concrete placed for the foundations and grade beams, including the reinforcing steel.
