Transforming a Hidden Space into a Community Destination
Tucked within a dense residential neighborhood in Elizabeth, Green Acres Park was easy to overlook. A narrow entrance, hidden between two homes, limited visibility and access, leaving the space underused despite its potential.
The project reimagined the park as a welcoming, highly visible destination designed for all ages. A new entrance creates a clear sense of arrival, inviting residents into a space that feels open, safe, and connected to the surrounding community.
Designing for Play, Movement, and Everyday Use
The redesigned park brings together a mix of active and passive amenities that support a wide range of users. A space-themed spray park and playground encourage imaginative play, including swings designed for both parents and children to use together. A six-rim basketball court provides room not only for games, but also for activities like foursquare and hopscotch.
A walking path loops around the park, offering a place for exercise and relaxation, with fitness stations integrated along the route. Additional features, including a gazebo, security lighting, and rain gardens, enhance comfort, safety, and environmental performance.
What was once a hidden and underutilized space is now a vibrant neighborhood asset, giving residents a place to gather, play, and stay active close to home.
