The South Amboy Ferry Terminal represents a major investment in regional mobility, providing a new commuter connection between the City of South Amboy and New York City. Located along the waterfront, the project transforms a previously underutilized site into a critical transportation hub, improving access, reducing travel times, and supporting economic growth in the surrounding community.
Our team is providing construction engineering and inspection services for this $31.8 million project, helping guide complex site and marine construction from early earthwork through final buildout. The work establishes the infrastructure needed to support long-term performance in a challenging coastal environment.
Managing Complex Construction in a Waterfront Environment
Construction began with significant ground improvement efforts, including the placement of engineered surcharge and the installation of wick drains, settlement plates, and monitoring instrumentation to address subsurface conditions. These efforts prepared the site for vertical and structural elements while reducing long-term settlement risk.
The project includes bulkhead construction using anchored steel sheet piling, installation of both temporary and permanent retaining walls, and placement of fill to establish final site grades. Additional improvements include stormwater infrastructure, a sanitary sewer pump station, and electrical conduit to support future electric vehicle charging.
A steel pavilion structure, supported by deep foundations and grade beams, anchors the site and will serve as a central feature of the terminal. Roadways and parking areas are completed with new paving, creating a cohesive and accessible layout for commuters.

Our role extends beyond inspection to include comprehensive construction administration and project controls. Through daily reporting, schedule and budget tracking, and ongoing coordination with the contractor, we help ensure that work is completed in accordance with project requirements and quality standards.
