Advanced Battery Recycling at Eastman Business Park
Li-Cycle has developed a cutting-edge process to break down used lithium-ion batteries into their base components, enabling those materials to be refined and reused in the production of new batteries. To support this process at scale, Li-Cycle established a state-of-the-art refining hub at Eastman Business Park. As part of this initiative, our firm was engaged to design a 302,000-square-foot warehouse facility to support the efficient movement, storage, and handling of incoming battery materials and outgoing refined products. The facility was conceived as a critical component of a growing circular battery economy, supporting both current operations and long-term expansion.
Integrated Facility Design and Operational Support
The facility was designed to function as a central logistical and operational hub for Li-Cycle’s North American activities. In addition to high-capacity warehouse space, the building accommodates material testing areas, administrative offices, and operational support functions. Our team coordinated architectural, civil, structural, and site engineering disciplines to deliver a cohesive facility that prioritizes safe material handling, efficient workflows, and adaptability. Close collaboration with the ownership team allowed the design to respond to evolving process requirements while maintaining flexibility for future operational changes.
Community Engagement and Collaborative Delivery
Beyond its industrial role, the facility incorporates a dedicated Visitor Center designed to educate the public about battery recycling and sustainable resource management. Interactive exhibits and guided tours provide insight into Li-Cycle’s recycling process and its role in advancing a circular battery economy.
Developed by The Pike Company and constructed by Conductor Construction, the project reflects a collaborative delivery approach focused on performance, sustainability, and schedule certainty. Through close coordination with the full project team, our firm delivered a facility that supports advanced recycling operations while promoting environmental stewardship and regional economic development at Eastman Business Park.
