Yale New Haven Hospital: A Smarter GI Suite Without Skipping a Day
At one of the nation’s top-ranked teaching hospitals, even a 6,000-square-foot renovation carries weight. This comprehensive transformation of Yale New Haven Hospital’s Outpatient GI Suite enhanced patient care through expanded procedural capabilities and improved comfort, all within the footprint of an active clinical environment. Our phased approach maintained operational continuity throughout seven months of construction, ensuring at least one procedure room remained available across all five construction phases. In a facility where endoscopies, colonoscopies, and diagnostic procedures run on a daily schedule, downtime was never an option.
The redesigned suite features three procedure rooms, six recovery bays, and three intake rooms, complemented by specialized decontamination and clean rooms critical to GI procedural workflows. Staff amenities were elevated with dedicated nurse and physician work areas, break rooms, changing facilities, and offices, while patients benefit from expanded reception and waiting areas designed to ease the experience from arrival through recovery.
Phased for Precision, Built for Patient Flow
Delivering a renovation of this complexity inside a fully operational hospital demanded more than good scheduling. Each of the five construction phases was sequenced to protect patient flow, maintain infection control standards, and minimize disruption to adjacent departments. The result is a modernized outpatient suite that matches the caliber of care Yale New Haven is known for, designed to support the hospital’s digestive health program with the capacity, efficiency, and patient experience it requires.
