Rethinking How a Region Moves
A transit system is only as strong as the connections it creates. When Reimagine RTS set out to reshape the region’s fixed-route network, the strategy centered on meeting riders where they are. Community mobility connection hubs placed at key convergence points throughout the service area would extend the reach of RTS in a smarter, more cost-effective way, linking riders to the broader network without the need to expand traditional fixed routes.
Six Hubs, One Unified Approach
Our team was selected to deliver architectural, electrical, and landscape design along with permitting and construction administration for six of the ten proposed hubs across the Greater Rochester area. Each location presented its own context and constraints, from the campus setting at St. John Fisher College to high-traffic retail environments at Marketplace Mall and Greece Ridge Mall, with additional hubs at Irondequoit Plaza, Rochester Technology Park, and Baytowne Plaza. Across all six, the design prioritized a consistent rider experience while adapting to the character of each site.
Built for Today, Ready for Tomorrow
Forward-thinking infrastructure was a priority from the start. Five of the six hubs incorporated electric vehicle charging stations, with active installations at St. John Fisher College, Rochester Tech Park, and Baytowne Plaza. Irondequoit Plaza and Greece Ridge Mall were designed and constructed with EV charging readiness built in, positioning those sites to come online as demand grows. It’s the kind of planning that ensures today’s investment continues to deliver value well into the future.
