Care Wrapped in Coastal Charm on the South Shore
The best pediatric spaces don’t try to disguise what they are. They give kids something better to focus on. Our interior design and branding teams collaborated to create a 12,000-square-foot facility for Beacon Pediatrics on the Massachusetts South Shore that reflects the practice’s mission while wrapping clinical care in a warm, coastal-themed environment designed to put young patients at ease from the moment they walk through the door.
A beach theme runs through every detail. The soothing color palette of blues, teal, greige, and a hint of salmon sets the tone, while coastal environmental graphics bring it to life: a lighthouse glass film in the lobby, a coastal map at reception, and portholes in the waiting room wall showcasing sea creature designs. Hallways feature a continuous wave graphic that guides kids toward twenty-four exam rooms, each with its own sea creature door graphic and lighthouse height chart. Custom LVT flooring adds turtle and compass inlays throughout, and the check-out area is designed to resemble the inside of a lighthouse, complete with white shiplap and a custom light fixture.
Creative Vision, Careful Execution
Behind the playful design, the technical challenges were real. Open plenum conditions and low ceilings required careful placement of every element, with additional insulation and strategic buck duct placement to address acoustics. Eleven offices and twenty-four exam rooms had to fit within the footprint without sacrificing the sense of openness that makes the space feel welcoming rather than clinical.
Timeline and budget management were equally critical. As a first-time client team navigating startup costs and lending requirements, Beacon Pediatrics needed guidance beyond design. Weekly meetings and detailed equipment planning helped the practice move from concept to completion with confidence, resulting in a space that combines creativity, functionality, and the kind of precision that a new practice deserves on day one.
