The awards were granted in the Historical Restoration/Preservation and Transportation categories, showcasing innovative approaches to urban design, transportation safety, and community revitalization.
City of Rochester: Aqueduct District Street Improvements
The Genesee Valley Branch awarded the Historic Restoration/Preservation Project of the Year to Rochester’s Aqueduct District Street Improvements project. This transformative project, part of the city’s ROC the Riverway Initiative, breathed new life into Rochester’s historic riverfront district by creating a pedestrian-focused district with thoughtful selection of materials and streetscaping elements to create a pleasing aesthetic that is harmonious with its surroundings.
Ontario County Department of Public Works: CR4-20 Intersection
The Genesee Valley Branch honored this critical safety improvement at an intersection that was previously the site of numerous injuries and fatalities. By converting the four-legged, two-way stop controlled intersection into a roundabout, the project reduced approach speeds from 60 to 20 mph and eliminated the possibility of a severe, right-angle collision. This long-awaited project provides lasting safety benefits to the traveling public.
Erie County Department of Public Works: Borden Road (CR 322) Rehabilitation, Phase I
This comprehensive roadway project rehabilitates a 3.5-mile corridor. The phased approach, beginning with a 1.15-mile segment that carries approximately 12,400 daily vehicle users, was structured to prioritize critical sewer and water infrastructure improvements. Borden Road Phase 1 was a prime example of successful interagency coordination to address utility deficiencies, rehabilitate the pavement surface, improve road hydraulics, and enhance community resilience.
