Bethlehem Welcomes New Downtown Parking Garage: A Major Milestone for Community and Commerce

Just in time for the holiday season, the City of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, celebrated a significant moment with the grand opening of the “new” Walnut Street Parking Garage in the city’s northside downtown center. This successful project signals a new beginning for downtown revitalization efforts by “rightsizing” the garage and opening up additional real estate for future residential and commercial redevelopment.
After two years of limited parking availability, the community enthusiastically welcomed the new structure with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and four hours of complimentary parking during the holiday season. This $27 million investment delivers substantial benefits with 517 modern parking spaces and an additional 3,000 square feet of retail space.
Engineering Excellence in Site Design
Colliers Engineering & Design played a pivotal role in leading this essential modernization project. Richard Roseberry, PE, AICP, headed the initiative, with his team responsible for environmental, surveying, and the civil/site design engineering of the garage. Working in close partnership with the Bethlehem Parking Authority and its design team, our professionals designed a facility that perfectly complements the city’s downtown revitalization goals.
The garage features a sophisticated brick and concrete façade and spans six floors, with the dedicated retail area prominently facing West Broad Street. The project was completed not only on time, but ahead of schedule, and its grand opening fittingly kicked off “Walnut Week,” a community celebration of downtown Bethlehem.
A Design for the Future
Richard Roseberry shared his enthusiasm for the project’s impact:
“Our design represents the future of the City of Bethlehem. The modern space not only can accommodate the anticipated holiday traffic buzz, but it also creates the opportunity for new business growth.”
